Australian Study VISA – The Complete Information Guide

  • Student Visa (subclass 500) – This Visa allows you to stay in Australia to study full-time in a recognized educational institution
  • Length of stay for the Student Visa is up to five years
  • Cost of application of the Visa is from AUD 575
  • After the course commencement, Student Visa holders are permitted to work for a maximum of 40 hours per fortnight when the course is in session and unlimited hours when the course is out of session
  • You can apply to take two or more courses on your Australian Student visa where one course clearly leads to the next, which is called course packaging; the last course you take as part of the course package is your main course of study, which is used to work out what financial and English language skills evidence is needed
  • You can travel outside Australia and return as many times as you want while the visa is valid; the time you spend outside Australia does not extend the visa

What is Student Guardian Visa?

  • Student Guardian Visa (subclass 590) – This Visa allows you to stay in Australia as the guardian of an international student, younger than 18 years of age, studying in Australia on a Student Visa
  • The length of stay for the Student Guardian Visa will be determined by the Student Visa holder’s age and duration of stay
  • Cost of application of the Visa is from AUD 575
  • The Student Guardian Visa holder cannot work in Australia, and should not engage in more than three months of study such as an English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS) for less than 20 hours per week
  • You must have enough funds to support yourself and the student during your stay
  • With this visa, you can care for more than one student
  • You can’t leave Australia without the student visa holder unless you have made alternative welfare arrangements.
