Advanced Placement (AP) exam gives students the chance to tackle college-level curriculum in specific subjects while they’re still in high school and earn college credit and placement.
There are 38 AP subjects from which students can choose the subjects based on the core subjects in under grad. Each of the 38 AP exams has its own unique requirements; however, almost all of the exams have several things in common:

  • AP is a paper pencil test.
  • Most exams are 2–3 hours long.
  • The first part of the exam usually consists of multiple-choice questions.
  • The second part of the exam usually consists of free-response questions (like essay, solution to a problem, etc.)
  • No of questions, duration for each section varies from subject to subject
  • The multiple-choice section is scored by computer. Specially appointed college professors and experienced AP teachers score the free response section of the exam.
  • AP scores are reported from 1 to 5.
  • The mean score for the 2019 AP Exams was 2.91. Nearly 60% of all exams taken earned a score of 3 or higher.
  • No penalty for wrong answers in the multiple choice questions.

What are the benefits of AP?

Taking AP exams and scoring 3 or higher (out of 5) may yield you some advantages in the colleges.

  • To stand out to universities: AP shows that you’ve mastered university-level knowledge and skills while still in high school.
  • To save money: Many universities give credit or advanced placement for qualifying AP Exam scores of 3 or higher.
  • To same time: If you can skip an introductory course by earning a qualifying AP Exam scores, then you can take another class instead that will count toward your degree. Use the time you save to take on a double major, an internship, or an on-campus job—or even graduate early.

When is the AP exam conducted in India?

The AP exams are conducted yearly once, in the month of May. There will be two testing in May; regular testing will be in the first week of May, late testing in the last week of May.

How to register for the AP exam?

The AP exams should be registered through the College Board account and fees to be paid in the test centre directly. For more details on registration and test centres in India, you can visit the College Board website. Registering on college board and paying the fees in the test center both are mandate to complete the registration.

When is the registration deadline for the AP exam?

In India, most of the centres close the AP registration by December and late registration deadline till February. Registration deadline, late registration deadline vary from centre to centre.

What is the fee for the AP?

AP Exam fees taken outside the U.S. is $124 for each subject. However, test fee vary from centre to centre.
