All You Need to Know About SAT Exams 2022

The SAT stands for ‘Scholastic Assessment Test,’ and it is an entrance exam for students wishing to enrol in undergraduate courses overseas, particularly at colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. It is a written paper-pencil test that assesses the applicants’ language and mathematical reasoning abilities. Your SAT scores are also taken into account by the universities you apply to when you apply for admission.

In this article, we’ll tell you about SAT exam dates, SAT eligibility, SAT pattern and other details so you can prepare for your exam ahead of time.

What is New SAT?

What is New SAT?

In 2016, considerable changes to the SAT pattern were implemented, and it was called the New SAT. Though the basic eligibility and exam maxim are the same, the New SAT has changed a number of other things, such as subject names, examination time, and valuation pattern. Whereas the original SAT exam pattern had sections on critical reading, writing, and math, the new SAT exam has sections on evidence-based reading and writing, as well as math. The examination also includes an essay part, which is optional for applicants. We recommend that you take the essay portion of the exam as well, as it can help you boost your SAT results.

The SAT time limit has been reduced in the new SAT from 3 hours 45 minutes to 3 hours for applicants who are not taking the essay portion and 3 hours 50 minutes for those who are taking the essay component. Aside from that, the new SAT scoring system has been altered, with papers now being graded on a 400-1600 scale rather than the old 600-2400 scale. In addition, the New SAT does not penalise students for incorrect responses.

Eligibility Criteria for SAT Exam

Eligibility Criteria for SAT

Despite the fact that there are no fixed SAT exam eligibility or age standards for appearing in the SAT, students often take the exam after graduating from high school and needing to enrol in university courses. This test is typically taken by students between the ages of 16 and 18.

However, you should be aware that there is no defined age limit for taking the exam. Applicants who are 12 years old or younger are also eligible to apply for the SAT, but only via mail. The examination does not have an upper age limit.

New SAT Exam Format

New SAT Exam Format

The three sections of the new SAT exam format 2022 are Experience-based reading and writing, SAT Math, and the optional SAT essay section. To help you understand the SAT exam pattern better, we’ve broken down each section.

  • Reading Section

The SAT reading part lasts 65 minutes and contains 52 multiple-choice questions. These questions are based on five texts, and they are all evidence-based questions that require the student to analyse and understand the material in the readings.

  • Writing Section

The SAT Writing and Language part lasts 35 minutes and includes 44 multiple choice questions based on four passages. This section assesses your ability to analyse and edit the passage’s content, which means you’ll need to correct grammar and make modifications. You must find sentences that remedy a graphical data misinterpretation, edit/fix faults in sentences within the material, and select sentences that sharpen an argument or offer essential supporting detail.

  • SAT Math Section

The SAT Math section assesses your mathematical reasoning abilities, and you will be scored on a scale of 200 to 800 points. This section is 80 minutes long and contains 58 questions, with 80 per cent of the questions being multiple-choice, but the remaining 20% being student-produced response questions known as Grid-ins, in which the student must solve the problem and enter an answer by circling/shading the appropriate numbers instead of choosing from four answer options.

  • Essay Section (Optional)

You will be given a text to analyse in SAT Essay section, and you will be required to analyse how the author effectively constructs his or her case. It demands you to comprehend the author’s persuasive writing tactics and to back up your claims with evidence from the passage.

How to Register for SAT Exam?

Register for SAT

Students can register for the SAT exam both online and via mail. Students must create an account on the College Board’s official website to participate in the online procedure. Then choose a test date and location, as well as pay the exam price online. If students desire to register by mail, they will require ‘The Student Registration Guide for the SAT and SAT Subject Tests,’ which is accessible in schools. This handbook includes a registration form that students must complete and send to the USIEF regional office, along with a demand draft (United States India Educational Foundation). In addition, students can register for the exam late after paying a late fee. Students must check the SAT test dates before registering. In India, online and offline are two ways for SAT registration.

1. SAT Registration Online

  • Create a student profile.
  • Select a test date and location.
  • You will receive an immediate confirmation of your SAT registration.
  • You can pay for the exam with a credit/debit card or an online funds transfer.
  • Typically, SAT registration deadlines are three to four weeks prior to the exam date.
  • Late SAT registration deadlines are usually two to three weeks before the test date, and there is a late fee if you register late.

2. SAT Registration Offline

  • The ‘Student Registration Guide for the SAT and SAT Subject Tests,’ which is available at schools, is required first.
  • An SAT registration form and a return envelope are included.
  • The form must be accompanied by a demand draft.
  • The USIEF is the SAT’s local representation in India. Their regional office will receive the mailed paperwork.

Well, that was a lot to take in, but we hope we were able to provide you with all of the information you required on the SAT. Also, you find SAT prep difficult then we suggest you to enrol for any good SAT online prep course.

The importance of SAT scores varies depending on the school. When deciding on admissions, colleges and universities take into account a student’s high school grade point average and academic transcript, as well as letters of recommendation, interviews, and personal essays.

Q2. Am I allowed to use a calculator?

Yes, but it is not required.

Q3. Can I cancel my SAT score?

Yes. If you finish the test and wish to cancel your results, you should request a “Request to Cancel Test Scores” form from the test supervisor.
