COVID-19 Vaccination: Priority for Students Going Abroad

From June 1, students who have been accepted to colleges or universities abroad, as well as those who wish to go to other countries for work, will be vaccinated first.

The National Health Mission has updated the list of favoured vaccination groups to also include four additional categories: students going abroad to study, individuals who intend to travel outside the country for work, milk co-operative workers, and cable operators.

The decision to include students who intend to study abroad in this list was made when Deputy Chief Minister and Higher Education Minister C.N. Ashwath Narayan, who also heads the State COVID-19 task team, offered the suggestion. In a press release, the Minister stated that people seeking the vaccine should have a visa, admission receipts, or other required documents. Covishield will be administered to them.

The Gap Between the Two Doses Reduced

The time between the first and second doses of Covishield has been shortened because many students want to travel abroad as early as July. They can obtain the second dose before the six-week period is up. For other citizens, the central government has increased the time between two dosages to a minimum of 12 weeks.

Dr. Ashwath Narayan said the vaccination campaign for students going to foreign countries to continue their education and those who need to travel to get jobs in other countries will begin on June 1 at 3 p.m. at Bengaluru Central University’s Administrative block. They will also receive certificates verifying that they have been vaccinated on the spot.

After confirming their documents, the Chief Commissioner of the BBMP and the Deputy Commissioners of all districts have been ordered to give the appropriate eligibility certificates to these categories.

Students who are waiting to be vaccinated before going overseas for higher education will be relieved by the decision.
