10-Day Mandatory Hotel Quarantine Rule Relaxed, As UK Moves India from ‘Red’ to ‘Amber’ List

Passengers who have been fully vaccinated, including the Indian students will no longer have to undergo 10-day mandatory hotel quarantine after arriving in the UK as India has been moved from the ‘Red’ to ‘Amber’ list.

Countries traveling from the amber list to the UK require a 10-day quarantine at home rather than in a hotel.

This change has come into the effect from the 8th of August, 2021 at 4 a.m. as the Department of Transport announced.

The Rt Hon Grant Shapps, the UK Transport Secretary, tweeted, India, the UAE, Qatar, and Bahrain has been moved from the red list to the amber list. All the changes have come into effect on the 8th of August, 2021 at 4 a.m.

While it was right to be cautious, opening more destinations would be great news to people waiting to connect with their families, business, and friends, he further said. He even thanked the UK’s successful domestic vaccination program for the same.

Passengers from the amber list must undergo a COVID-19 test three days prior to boarding the flight and book two covid tests in advance, to be taken once they arrive in UK. Passengers will also have to fill out a complete passenger locator form on the arrival.

After arriving in England, one must quarantine for 10 days at home or at the confirmed location, taking the COVID-19 test on or before the second day or after the eighth day.

Those under the age of 18 who have been completely vaccinated in the UK, European Union, or the US shall be exempt from the home quarantine.

Also, those who are under the vaccine abroad, are under the age of 18 on the day of arrival in England and are residents of the UK or a country where a vaccination program has been approved by the UK and are part of a UK-approved vaccination trial will be exempt from the home

The India-manufactured Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine, Covishield, is likely to be covered under this.
For the time being, UK’s government has increased the mandatory hotel quarantine costs for solo travelers from August 12, 2021, from GBP 1,750 to GBP 2,285.

The cost of sharing a room with another adult will increase from GBP 650 to GBP 1,430.
Austria, Slovenia, Latvia, Norway, Germany, Slovakia, and Romania have all been added to the green list by the country. The country of France has been moved from the “amber watchlist.”

Regardless of their vaccination status, travelers from green-list countries will not be needed to quarantine upon arrival in the UK. They will, however, be required to take a COVID-19 test prior to departure and another two days following arrival.
Four countries, Georgia, Mayotte, Mexico, and La Reunion will be added to the red list.
