IB Middle Year Programme (MYP) Syllabus

The International Baccalaureate (IB), formerly known as the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), is a non-profit organisation created in 1968 in Geneva, Switzerland. IB course is an internationally recognised advanced school program. It is taught in over 140 countries in English, French, and Spanish.

The IB Program includes the IB Primary Years Programme for children aged 3 to 12, IB Middle Years Programme for students aged 11 to 16 and IB Diploma for students aged 15 to 19. The IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) is a global educational programme for students aged 11 to 16 years old. It is part of the International Baccalaureate. The IB Middle Year Program is designed to prepare students for the IB Diploma Program, which lasts two years. Students should indeed receive instruction in all eight subject categories during the Middle Year Programme: Language Acquisition, Language and Literature, Individuals and Societies, Sciences, Mathematics, Arts, Physical and Health Education, and Design.

IB - Middle Year Programme 11-16 Yrs

Physical and health-related knowledge, components of fitness, training methods, training principles, nutrition, lifestyle, biomechanics, exercise physiology, issues in sport and first aid

Aesthetic movement, gymnastics, aerobics, martial arts, jump rope, yoga or capoeira

Team sports, such as football, basketball, handball, volleyball and hockey

Individual sports, such as golf, athletics, swimming, squash or fencing

International sports and activities, including athletic traditions and forms of movement beyond students’ personal and cultural experiences


Distinct digital and/or product design course

Can I choose 7 subjects in IB?

A student must decide on 6 mandatory subjects. And three subjects each for the higher level, & standard level respectively. 


Can I switch from AA to AI or vice versa?

It is possible to switch from AA to AI or vice versa, but it’s important to consider the timing and potential impact on your academic progress. Consult with your academic advisor or teacher before making a switch.

Can I take 7 subjects in IB?

A student is advised to select six subjects, three of which must be at the Higher Level (HL) and three of which must be at the Standard Level (SL).
