University of Washington

Established in 1861, the University of Washington is one of the oldest state-assisted institutions of higher education on the Pacific coast. From its earliest site on a 10-acre tract of wooded wilderness that is now situated in downtown Seattle, the campus has grown to comprise 703 acres of trees, landscape, and buildings. Situated between the shores of Lake Washington and Lake Union, it is in a housing section of the city that has long been considered one of the most beautiful in the nation. Two additional campuses, one south of Seattle in Tacoma, and one north in Bothell, were launched in 1990.

The UWs colleges and schools offer 1,800 undergraduate courses each quarter. The university gives more than 12,000 bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral and professional degrees annually. Also, the University of Washington recommends more than 370 graduate programs across all three UW campuses and online, from master’s to doctoral programs for people who are launching or continuing academic, research or professional careers.
