University of Notre Dame

Rev. Edward F. Sorin, C.S.C., priest of the Congregation of the Holy Cross, a French missionary order, established the University of Notre Dame in November 1842. Notre Dame arose from the vision of Father Sorin, who wanted to create a great Catholic university in America, and remained true to both his religious and intellectual traditions. The University is a leading American research university that offers undergraduate, professional and graduate students the opportunity to pursue their academic endeavors in a unique scholarly environment. Enriched by Catholic intellectual and cultural values, this is a place that throughout its history has sought to bring awareness to the service of justice. Undergraduates at Notre Dame pursue those inquiries in the numerous majors, minors and programs offered by Arts and Letters, Business, Science, Engineering, Architecture and Global Affairs. Professional degrees in Law, Industry and Architecture at Notre Dame can find academic rigor, liberating discoveries in classrooms and studios, and expert mentoring by seasoned practitioners.
