Stanford University was instituted in 1885 by California senator Leland Stanford and his wife, Jane, to stimulate public welfare by exercising an impact on behalf of humanity and society. It is one of the world's top exploration universities. It is known for its business character, drawn from the legacy of its creators, Jane and Leland Stanford, and its affiliation to Silicon Valley. The University today includes seven schools and 18 interdisciplinary institutes thousands of students, faculty, and postdoctoral scholars.
