Lamar University originated on 8 March 1923, when the South Park School District of Beaumont allowed its superintendent to continue with plans to open a first-class junior college. Home to more than 15,000 students, Lamar University is one of the fastest-growing colleges and universities in Texas. LU is a part of the Texas State University System, which is the first higher education system in Texas and has the lowest average of any university system in Texas.
