Howard University

Howard University, which was established in 1867, is a private research university consisting of 13 schools and colleges. Students pursue studies leading to undergraduate, associate, and professional degrees in more than 120 fields. To date, more than 120,000 degrees in the arts, sciences, and humanities have been awarded by Howard.

Howard has been rated by the National Science Foundation as the top producer of African-American undergraduates who later receive doctoral degrees in science and engineering. In social work, business, and communication sciences and disorders, the university also boasts nationally ranked programs. Howard An Incubator for Cinematographers was called in The Washington Post in 2013. A core part of its branding is the university's motto, Veritas et Utilitas, Honesty, and Duty. In nearby LeDroit Park, around the country, and far-flung locations around the world, more than 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students devote hundreds of hours each year to service.
