Foothill College was established on 15 January 1957 with the goal of providing access to educational opportunities for all with innovation and distinction. The College educates students from diverse backgrounds, reflecting the diversity of the Bay Area, with attention to underserved and underrepresented communities. It develops and works on the basis of a sense of duty to be the steward of the public good.
Foothill has a long tradition of teaching foreign students, and graduates come from many different parts of the world, from Tonga and the Ivory Coast to Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, and Latvia. The diverse foreign student population comes from more than 100 countries. Top-ranked in the state for transfer & career programs, the college provides over 166 degree & credential options that enable students to achieve their goals as workers, as future students, and as global citizens. It aims to promote equality in the achievement of student results for all California student populations and is motivated by its core values of fairness, dignity, trust, openness, accountability, forgiveness, and sustainability.
The campus is built on the slopes of Los Altos Hills. It's parallel to El Monte Road and Interstate 280, the scenic Junipero Serra Freeway.
