Contra Costa College (CCC) is the oldest and most diverse college in the Contra Costa Community College District. A proud Hispanic Serving Institution, serving primarily Latinx, African American, and Asian students, CCC is located in a socio-economically diverse, resilient, and culturally vibrant community.
The college is located on 83 acres of a beautiful, naturally landscaped site accentuated by Wildcat Creek, which runs through the rolling hills of San Pablo and Richmond. Established in 1949, the CCC has provided outstanding educational services as the only higher education institution in the West County region. The CCC serves more than 7,000 students per year with a higher faculty and staff committed to building a leading learning environment.
Both the CCC and the District are very proud of their effective participatory governance structures and processes. The campus has a new college center, which opened in the fall of 2016. Students are indeed enjoying a new activity building that houses all school activities, a bookstore, and a new culinary arts program that includes a dining hall. The campus center also features a new classroom building and a community hall, as well as new campus administration spaces. The new science building remodeled physical education and athletic facilities and a new campus safety center are scheduled for renovation/construction in the next few years.
The Applied Arts Building is newly renovated and has just been re-opened for the fall of 2018. CCC has been recognized for many of its academic and career education programs locally, and nationally. The Center for Science Excellence, a mentoring program offering a strong base in science, mathematics, and engineering, as well as transition readiness, is funded by several grants, including the National Science Foundation.
Most recently, the College received a second grant from Title III, part F of the HSI (Hispanic Serving Institution) STEM to continue the objective of growing the number of students from under-resourced communities in the fields of science, technology, and mathematics. One of the fastest-growing curricula is the "green energy" curriculum. The Career Education (CE) experience at CCC is noteworthy for the Electrical/Hybrid Automotive Technology Program and provides the only Hybrid Technician Credential in the Bay Area. The Culinary Arts Program has also been one of the signature work-training programs on campus. The program is managed by the elegant Aqua Terra Restaurant and hosts an annual Food and Wine fundraising event that has allowed CCC students to travel to Italy, China, and France to study with renowned chefs.
