Auburn is a remote, pleasant university town in the rolling hills of central-eastern Alabama with a population of about 60,000. It is conveniently situated along Interstate 85, less than 60 miles northeast of Montgomery, the capital of Alabama, about 30 miles northwest of Columbus, Georgia, and 100 miles southwest of Atlanta. The Gulf Shores of Alabama can be reached in less than four hours. The City of Auburn and the University of Auburn have a special relationship, including collaborations such as the Yarbrough Tennis Center and the Auburn Science Park. The famous Toomer's Corner not only marks the intersection of the city and the university but is also a popular place for city and university groups to celebrate.
Need-based scholarships are awarded by the University Scholarships Office and by each of Auburn's 12 colleges and schools. Merit scholarships are awarded exclusively to newcomers and are renewable for a period of four years. Each year, students must apply through the Auburn University Scholarship Opportunity Manager (AUSOM) for consideration. The online features and benefits of AUSOM enable students to search, review requirements, apply and accept awards for available scholarship opportunities, all within one easy-to-use site.
