The curriculum is divided into prerequisite courses (to be taken as directed on admission, no credit awarded towards the degree), two required core course (4 credits), three selected core courses (12 credits), electives (8 credits) and thesis research (8 credits) for a total of 32 credits.

The research thesis is the culminating activity of the Master of Science curriculum. It allows and requires that the student pursue a focus topic in significant depth. The student's research must be documented in a written thesis and presented at a public defense.

The thesis research is done under the guidance of the student's advisory committee. This committee is composed of a committee chair and at least two additional graduate faculty members. The chair and one of the members must be selected from the Visualization faculty. The third member must be from outside the Visualization faculty.

Texas A&M University offers scholarships to exceptionally eligible Texas community college Phi Theta Kappa transfer students. These scholarships have been renewable for up to two years. TAMU Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Scholarships honor exceptional transfer students who will attend Texas A&M University.
