UMBC’s Computer Science and Electrical Engineering Department offers both M.S. and Ph.D. programs in Computer Science. Below you will find information on both Computer Science graduate programs, and information about how to apply. We also offer a M.P.S. (Masters in Professional Studies) in Cybersecurity, two graduate certificate programs in Cybersecuity and are developing an M.P.S. program and graduate certificate programs in Data Science. The Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering has 33 tenured and tenure-track faculty, 15 research faculty, four full-time lecturers and over 20 affiliate and part-time adjunct faculty. Current research concentrations include artificial intelligence, graphics and visualization, computer networks and systems, database and knowledge management, algorithms and computation theory, communications and signal processing, microelectronics, photonics and optical communications. The department has approximately 1100 undergraduate students in two degree programs: computer science and computer engineering. It has nearly 600 graduate students in four graduate programs: computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering and cybersecurity.
