During your Foundation Entry year, you will study alongside peers from related courses, whilst you gain a broad introduction to the principles and concepts of engineering, underpinned by a sound knowledge and understanding of scientific principles.An integrated design projects environment with other built environment disciplines.Students will be taught by research-informed teaching staff at the top of their profession.Opportunities to become research intern, working with UCLan?s research staff, during the Summer vacation, whilst you are still a student.This course offers an optional 48-week sandwich placement in industry this comes between the second and third years. You are responsible for finding your own placement. We will support you in preparation for this with the Faculty Placement Team and UCLan Careers, who can help you plan and develop your CV and applications, and have practice interviews.

You will have alternative routes to gain employment in a range of engineering disciplines, within either the broad area of civil engineering or specialist disciplines such as a structural engineer, transportation engineer, environmental engineer, or engineering hydrologist. As well as the option to further your specialisation with a postgraduate course, you can also diversify into the academic world of research and development, within universities or work for dedicated established research organisations within the built environment.
