The Department of Mathematics Undergraduate Program Office is located in 313 Altgeld Hall. Our program includes majors in Mathematics, Teaching of Mathematics, Actuarial Science, and Mathematics & Computer Science, as well as a Minor in Mathematics.Our students also participate in research year-round through the Math 496 Honors Seminar, summer Research Experiences for Undergraduates, and individually-arranged faculty reading courses. We have an active team of creative problem-solvers who prepare in the fall for the Putnam Exam, a nationwide mathematics competition for undergraduates, and keep in practice with the U of I Undergraduate Math Contest each spring.A Major Plan of Study form, declaring concentration and supporting coursework, must be completed and submitted to the LAS Student Academic Affairs Office except for students in the Teaching of Mathematics concentration.
