Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) is a broad and diverse field of study that offers students an education with several degree options. The most flexible degree options are at the bachelor?s level, where students can pursue either the Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) degree or the Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree. The more scientific BSCE includes four areas of specialization while the BA, with its two distinct major concentrations, affords students more flexibility, including the possibility to complete a double major with any other Rice University major.Upon completing the BSCE degree, students will be able to demonstrate: An ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering. An ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data. An ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability. An ability to function on multidisciplinary teams. An ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems. An understanding of professional and ethical responsibility. An ability to communicate effectively.
