The University of Victoria came into being on July 1, 1963, but it had a history of sixty years of distinguished university-level teaching as Victoria College. UVic is a great place to read. Not surprisingly, Maclean's magazine regularly rates UVic as one of Canada's top global universities. The university incorporates the best aspects of both small and large universities.
