Mount Allison traced its roots to 1839 when Sackville merchant Charles Frederick Allison suggested establishing a school of elementary and higher learning. The Mount Allison Academy, a school for boys, started in 1843, followed by the Ladies College in 1854. The University honors itself on offering students a high excellence academic experience. Mount Allison provides more than 40 different programs to choose from to create one's unique degree.
The University is dedicated to educating the student by offering a wide variety of sport, fitness, and recreational chances that promote healthy, active lifestyles and leadership, sportsmanship, and teamwork. It offers master's degrees in biology and chemistry and biochemistry as well as bilingualism certificates. In addition, it offers a science program with a major in aviation in partnership with the Moncton Flight College. In addition, 31 programs of study abroad are available to students in 20 countries. Moreover, students are offered 31 study abroad programmes in 20 countries.
The university has around 140 clubs and societies and more than 30 clubs and intramural sports teams.
