Students in the Department of Experience Design and Management may complete accredited degrees in experience design and management (ExDM) or therapeutic recreation and management (TR).

The two majors share a commitment to providing recreation opportunities, programs, and experiences focused on strengthening individuals, families, and communities. ExDM and TR, however, represent diverse approaches and opportunities for students. A minor in nonprofit management is also available. The interdisciplinary nature of both programs allows students the opportunity to complete not only their departmental coursework but also learn from BYU Marriott courses as well.

Therapeutic recreation coursework also includes classes in the behavioral and life sciences.The focus of the experience design and management major is on preparing students for the recreation, venue, and experience management professions in private, public, and nonprofit venues. The ExDM curriculum is designed with the recognition that providing and managing recreation experiences and venues have emerged as an important factor of economic activity for communities, cities, states, and countries.
