Who should take the Advanced Placements Exams?

It is strongly recommended for students applying to the top 50 universities in the US or students applying to the top schools in UK like Oxford, Cambridge, London School of Economics, and Imperial College London.

However, all students who wish to enhance their profile and boost their chances of admits into their dream universities and earn credits should also take AP.

When is the AP exam conducted in India?

The AP exams are conducted yearly once, in the month of May. There will be two testing in May; regular testing will be in the first week of May, late testing in the last week of May.

When and where should I register for the AP?

  1. AP Exams are administered only in May each year and require advance registration in authorized test center.
  2. Authorized Test Centers: https://international.collegeboard.org/students/ap/taking-ap-india
  3. The 2023 AP Exams will be administered in AP authorized schools and test centers as paper-and-pencil exams over two weeks in May: May 1–5 and May 8–12.
  4. Late testing (May 17-19) is offered by some test centers if students cannot test during the first two weeks of May.
  5. Registration deadline: between September and mid-November 2022. Some test centers may offer a second registration window (January through mid-March 2023) but with additional fees.

How to register for the AP exam?

The AP exams should be registered through the College Board account and fees to be paid in the test centre directly. For more details on registration and test centres in India, you can visit the College Board website. Registering on college board and paying the fees in the test center both are mandate to complete the registration.

When is the registration deadline for the AP exam?

In India, most of the centres close the AP registration by December and late registration deadline till February. Registration deadline, late registration deadline vary from centre to centre.

How to choose the right subjects to do for AP?

a. The College Board offers an online tool (https://apstudents.collegeboard.org/choosing-courses/by-major-career) on which you can help the students discover the subjects they can choose based on their intended career, major or choose the major or career based on AP courses.
b. For example, if you plan to major in Chemical Engineering, it may make sense to take subjects like AP Chemistry and AP Calculus.
c. You may also consider the AP recognition policies of any specific colleges/universities where you think you will apply.
d. What sets an AP Exam apart is that you could potentially earn university credit and/or advanced placement, which means you could skip an introductory-level university course or earn enough credits to start at a higher-level course for that subject.
e. However, many students find that preparation for an AP Exam helps them once they’re at university, even if they don’t earn credit or placement.

What are the fees for the AP Exams?

Exam fee for on-time exam orders (by November 15, 2022, for full-year and first-semester courses; by March 15, 2023, for courses that start after November 15): $127 per exam at schools everywhere else (Note: Fees may vary for exams at College Board–authorized test centers outside the U.S.)

Additional Fee of $40 for Late fees on top of the base fees.

What AP scores are required by different colleges?

Different universities have different criteria for the AP requirements and offer varying credits depending on the subjects.

Students from which board in India should take AP?

The AP exams are strongly recommended for students who come from all state boards, CBSE and ICSE curriculum since the universities consider the AP courses more demanding.

Should students from IB Board take AP?

The IB and Cambridge International AS & A Level Curriculum are generally not recommended to take the AP exams because these curriculum are considered as rigorous if not more than AP.

But if the program or school you are applying to do not offer credits or benefits based on the curriculum then you should take the AP Exams. Seek more clarity from the university you are applying to.
