Registering for the IELTS Exam

Depending on the travel objective, the version of IELTS exam will differ. There is an Academic version and a General version.

  • To get enrolled in an academic program in a country where most, if not all, communication is in English, one needs to take the IELTS Academic
  • For every other purpose, like work, or work-related training, or migrate to an English-speaking country, one needs to take the IELTS General Training

 

A Step-by-Step Glance at the Procedure:

Choose your preferred Test, Test Type, and Test Date in the city. Check out the available IELTS Exam Dates and Locations. Choose the one that suits most appropriately. Keep ample time for preparation too.

STEP 5:

Upload scanned copies of your Passport. Remember to provide a copy of the valid document of identification and this same document will have to be presented at the test center on the day of the test.

STEP 6:

Register and make the payment online or submit the printed copy of the application form to the test center. Before making Payment, double-check your information. Once payment has been received. Candidates may print a copy of their acknowledgment receipt.

 

Following online registration, you will receive an acknowledgment via the email/phone number you provided. For paper-based IELTS, you can schedule an appointment online at your preferred date and time. If you do not get your preferred time slot, a time slot will be assigned to you automatically.

Other Online IELTS Exam Registration Methods –

You must create an online profile at the IDP IELTS registration page. Then you’ll have to pay the exam fee (INR 17,000). You can register anytime and on any day using the online method. You must use a credit or debit card to pay. IDP IELTS registration is the quickest and easiest way to reserve an IELTS slot.

In-person registration is available at the IDP India office. You can fill out a paper application at the office or download the online form. You must pay the fee with a credit/debit card, a demand draft, or an ICICI bank deposit slip. Your order will be confirmed immediately.

The registration fee for the IELTS Exam is Rs. 15,500 in India.

Can I change my test date or venue once I register for the test?

Requests for cancellation or postponement of your IELTS test must be made strictly 5 weeks before the test date via email or in-person only. Telephone cancellation or postponement will not be accepted.

Under what circumstances will my registration be cancelled or changed without my consent?

Your computer-delivered IELTS test session may be cancelled or postponed on short notice if technical issues impact the running of the test. If a session is cancelled for technical issues, you may choose to be rescheduled to the next available test at the same Test Centre or have a full refund of the test fee.

How soon can the candidate give the IELTS test again?

There are no restrictions on retaking IELTS. You can register for a test as soon as you feel you are ready to do so. For IELTS Life Skills candidates ONLY – Candidates who have previously taken the IELTS Life Skills test and have passed are not allowed to retake the test at the same level within two years.

How many times can I take the IELTS test?

There is no limit set by the conducting bodies of IELTS for taking the IELTS exam. You can take the IELTS test as many times as you want until you get your dream/target score.

Where are the IELTS test centres?

IELTS centres in India are spread across 78 locations from urban to rural areas. You could register for the test at the nearest official IELTS centre based on your location.

What should I bring to complete my IELTS registration?

You should register yourself for the IELTS test online. Documents required for IELTS registration are a passport or other National Identity Proof. You should also carry the same document to the test centre on the date of your test.

Which one is better – British Council or IDP for taking IELTS?

There is absolutely no difference between the IELTS test in the British council or IDP. In India, the test can be taken only at the IDP as the British council does not administer the test anymore.
