1. Explore Test Centres and Locations

Consider multiple locations. Since seats and limited and SAT is digital, choosing the right centre is a crucial step in your registration process. So check city-wise availability in the 100+ authorised centres. Consider the time taken to travel to the centre and the potential traffic.

2. Choose Your Preferred Date

To select your SAT date, begin by reviewing your college application deadlines. Plan to take the test first in the spring of your junior year (Class 11), allowing time for a possible retake in the autumn of your senior year (Class 12).  In India, popular dates such as August, October, and December fill quickly, so monitor the College Board website and register at least two months in advance to secure your preferred center. 3. Create a College Board Account

Go to satsuite.collegeboard.org and click “Sign Up.” Do not create more than one account. Use your legal name to create your College Board account as it shows on your photo ID. Once you have logged in, navigate it to “My SAT” dashboard and click “Register for the SAT.” Complete your student profile by filling in your GPA, extracurriculars and contact information.

4. Select Your Test Center

The Digital SAT allows you to search for test centres by pin codes or city. Popular centres fill up months in advance. If your local centre is fully booked, you will have to travel to a nearby city. International students should bear in mind that test centres are more limited abroad. So register at least 2-3 months in advance.

5. Upload Your Photo

Upload a clear passport-style picture. Do not use filters or wear hat or sunglasses. The photograph should be in .jpg, .gif or .png format. There shouldn’t be any shadows or filters. The photograph should only feature you facing the camera with eyes visible.

6. Make the Payment

Pay thee standard registration fee of $111 – $131 (including regional fees and GST). Late registration fee will cost +$34 – $38. If you are a low-income student, check with your school counselor for a Fee Waiver. This covers the full cost of two SATs and unlimited score reports.

7. Download Bluebook™

Download the Bluebook app on your laptop or tablet that you will use for the exam. This step is crucial for the Digital SAT. You have to sign in with your College Board credentials.

8. Complete “Exam Setup”

Complete the exam setup to verify that your device is ready and to confirm your registration, download the test to your device, and generate your admission ticket. 

9. Print out the Admission Ticket

You cannot enter the test center without your admission ticket. You can print it or save a digital copy to your phone, but having a physical printout is a safer backup.

India-Specific Discounts (Fee Waivers)

The College Board offers fee waivers to eligible Indian students through the India Scholars Program for students in Class 11 or 12. To avail of this waiver, students must apply for a voucher on the Buddy2Study portal before registration. 

The College Board India Scholars Program offers lower-income students in India two ways to save money as they plan for university,” says the organisation.

Indian students who are “income eligible” can apply for the discount vouchers that can save up to 90% on SAT registration fees.

  • 90% SAT registration discount: Annual family income less than ₹8 lakh.
  • 50% SAT registration discount: Annual family income between ₹8 lakh and ₹15 lakh. 

Students who score 1300 or higher may qualify for a merit-cum-need scholarship at participating universities. The scholarship amounts will depend on the student’s annual family income. 

Students can apply for these scholarships while applying for admission. Universities will pick deserving students from a pool of eligible applicants with 1300 or higher in SAT score, apart from the other admission criteria.
