Cornell University has become the first Ivy League institution to have suspended the SAT/ACT requirement for aspirants for Fall 2021 intake. However, the University has clarified that this move will be effective for a year only.
Many top institutes, especially liberal arts colleges in the US, have already taken this step and suspended the requirement of SAT/ACT in the wake of COVID-19 crisis.
In its statement, Cornell has categorically stated that the test-optional admission policy is temporary and believes that many students who have already taken the SAT during 2020 administrations will continue to submit their scores which will indicate their preparation for college.
It further said that the results from the ACT/SAT might play an important role during 2020-21 admission cycle, especially for students who have the opportunity to take the test, live or attend school nearby and have not experienced the income-loss for one or more of their family providers or any other major loss in 2020.
