How Can You Top Your IB Geography (SL/ HL) Exams

  • Make a study plan. Exercise on past papers and use marking schemes. Go through the syllabus during each study session. Don’t leave anything until the last nanosecond. Only studying a week or two before the IB Geography papers won’t help. Go through the syllabus during each study session. The key to being successful in any subject at IB position is about being visionary inside and outside of class.
  • Assemble your resources. You need to be organised, attentive in class and have all your notes from every class neatly arranged whether online or in published form. Separate your motifs and topics within your notes for each paper (papers 1, 2, and 3).
  • Command Terms are KEY. The quickest and simplest approach to raise your grade is to use command phrases! Understanding what the test is asking you to do is a surefire way of making sure whoever is looking at your paper knows you’re well informed, well set and academically rigorous. Make sure you are aware of the marks assigned to each command term as well as the level of detail required in your response.
  • Diagrams are your secret armament. During your test a diagram can be worth a significant number of marks! A well labelled and explained diagram can successfully help you in answering questions so try and have at least one or two ready- to- go for all your topics/chapters. This helps not only to show the examiner that you truly understand what you’re talking about but also gives structure to your thoughts around a topic, aids memorisation and make sure you incorporate all of the diagram’s important information. They can save you some sneaky marks when you check at a diagram you’ve created and realise there’s an extra line you haven’t labelled and discussed!
  • Choose case study that are applicable to you. The best part about Geography is its applicability to the ultramodern world. Everything you see, hear, smell and sense is Geography in some form or another. Today’s world should be the inspiration for your case studies and global news is your gate into this. This is particularly helpful for the HL extension course but is applicable to the course as a whole.
